LET'S HAVE GWK STATUE TOUR!
The grand and captivating statue was inspired by a famous story in Hindu mythology about the search for Amerta (the elixir of life). According to the myth, Garuda agreed to the be ridden by Wisnu in return for the right to use the the elixir to liberate his enslaved mother.
This statue is 75 metre tall and 65 metre wide, designed by Nyoman Nuarta. Combined with the pedestal it sits on the height of the monuments is an eye watering 1221 metres, which is nearly 30 metres taller than the Statue of Liberty in the United States.

Top Highlights
- World's Third Tallest Statue. Garuda Wisnu Kencana stands 121 meters tall with a wingspan measuring 65 meters, making it taller than the Statue of Liberty by up to 30 meters.
- Collaboration of 120 artists. While the master architect of the GWK statue is credited to I Nyoman Nuarta, the overall project is the collaboration of up to 120 artists.
- 3,000 tons of copper and bronze pieces. The statue itself is made of 3,000 tons of copper and bronze slabs to reach its current height. It is also the heaviest statue in Indonesia.
- 28 years in the making. It was designed initially in 1990 by I Nyoman Nuarta. The actual construction of the monument began in 1997.
- Earthquake-proof. The statue is a design masterpiece that combines the elements of art, technology and science to make it withstand the powerful tropical storms in Bali as well as earthquakes.
Tour Schedule
The tour is divided into two sessions:
- 9th floor: In this floor, the tour guid will share about the journey of the GWK statue from the beginning of planning until it finally stood up.
- 23rd floor: Visitors are shown facts about the construction of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue and can see directly the inside from a close distance. It is shown very beautifully how the embodiment of Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a combination of works of art, science and technology. On this floor, visitors can also enjoy views of the island of Bali in the north and south through the window holes from inside the giant statue.
